True Confessions of Colt Straub

At this point Jimmy, Travis and me were the only ones left, and luckily, there are probably the only three people in the house that didn't absolutely loathe me. But as luck would have it, we were totally separated for the remainder of our sojourn. But that was OK as we were headed to lovely Las Vegas -- where I've never been before.

As for Jimmy Heck, his Vegas experience is a pretty solid reflection of who he is and what makes him fantastic.

Jimmy is so manly that he makes Paul Bunyan look like a Spice Girl, is stronger than Paul's ox Babe, has more confidence than Jesus and apparently dislikes wearing a shirt even more than Matthew McConaughey (is it that shirts make you sweat? Are they just uncomfortable? I had the same problem when I was 2, but I hated wearing pants). Jimmy also has more than a firm grip on the English language. He has it by the throat, with a complete strangle-hold. There are no questions about it. He is its master. It works for him. To hear Jimmy express his opinions is an honor I hope all of you out there are cherishing.

So what could have been better than for him to drive really fast, get his shirt off, his muscles out, cut through any remaining barriers with his diction and then get physical on a pool table? What right-minded woman could resist his bravado, charm, grace and rhetoric? Also, has anyone noted Jimmy's hair line? That dude has more hair than Sasquatch. The world will stop spinning before he starts to bald. You lucky, strong, thick-haired, articulate bastard. You could probably seduce The Pope.

As for Travis, I honestly thought that he was the best guy in this entire thing and I told this to Stacey. Travis is without a doubt a great guy. He's sweeter than a Twizzler dipped in Coca-Cola, has hair straight out of a Pantene commercial and can absolutely rip on a piano. What's not to love and be blown away by?

His Achilles heel (if he has one) is that he is, in fact, rather young. I'm not making any accusations, but perhaps this became even more apparent during their naked shower. Did Stacey see something that reminded her just how young he really is? Does Travis resemble a young man physically in EVERY way possible? That I cannot say, as I was not there (those familiar with the fantastic Cougar blogosphere know what I'm talking about! Shoutouts to Barry, Scotty, Tone, ALL THREE of the Colt supporters around the GLOBE!).

But maybe Travis dug his own grave with his words, and possibly his fear of what the future could hold between the two of them. But that's OK, Travis, let the two Titans battle it out for the heart of The Coug.

As for my experience in Las Vegas, it was indeed exciting as I'd never been there before. And when I learned we would be taking a truly majestic, surreal tour of the city via helicopter one would think I'd be more than excited. And I was. I was in fact terrified, as I have no bigger fear than heights. (Well, maybe vampires. And catching crabs.) I'm truly not a manly man, although one time I did steal change from a homeless guy - he couldn't play the saxophone for s**t!. So anyway, cruising around in a helicopter was not exactly my dream date and this came across rather evidently. If only you could see the full extent of my fear, I absolutely drenched my shirt. My armpits looked like they had been crying as hard as Jimmy was when he learned that Gilmore Girls had been canceled (HEYOOOO!). Also, my dear friend Marquita died in a tragic helicopter trick show accident when I was very young -- and this weighed heavily on my mind as well. But I guess the old adage is true: Love makes you do crazy things. R.I.P., Boo!

I was also nervous as it was becoming really obvious that this was getting serious, fast. Feelings were beginning to grow, and feelings were beginning to show -- at least on my part they were. Only one thing was certain: My feelings for her were
building at an uncontrollable pace. Like New Orleans, I was afraid that my levees would bust.

Our dinner date was nice. I'm not a fan of eating with people -- I've never enjoyed it, but then again, I'm an odd dude. I did my usual thing when on a dinner date where I try to get the woman to talk a lot, and just smile all the time. The cat's out of the bag, that's my simple secret. Here's another free lesson, fellas: on hot days, cover yourselves where the sun don't shine with baby powder. It's truly
exhilarating. The exhilaration will invariably translate into confidence, and we all know women love confidence.

One thing is difficult to put into words: Stacey's charm. We all know she's an incredibly pretty woman, but in person she looks absurdly attractive. And having shared a bath with her (jackpot!), I will confess that's an experience I'll never forget. Having spent a lot of time with her I really can't express how intelligent and interesting she is. She knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. After Vegas, I was hooked.

Travis ended up getting the boot, leaving me and my nemesis to duke it
out. It's crunch time. Having lived the experience I'm quite sure that you'll enjoy what remains to be seen in this The Cougar finale. I hope you all enjoy it; I'm sure it will be a doozy.

Also I thought it appropriate to share my real feelings on the other members of the show. (Consider it my parting gift.)

First off, hey, Viv! I hope you're doing exquisitely. I miss you deeply.

Adam- Funny dude, very handsome
Austin- Truly unique, and environmental
Bodie- Liked his decision to wear shorts in 35 degree weather
Brad- Fantastic dancer
David- Very nice guy, but he didn't like me. And I didn't like the fact that he
played Ace of Base's "The Sign" when he got ready for the eliminations
Grant- Looks a lot like Adam, very gregarious
J.D- Big guy, small voice, very intelligent
Kai- Very genuine, nice dude
Ryan- Loves to make people laugh, loves to booze -- very good at both
Nick- Has an opinion on everything; unfortunately, no one really cares
Kevin- A true Southern gentleman. On the first night I was in the house, I secretly picked him to be the winner in my mind. I was actually shocked when he got sent home so early -- He should've shown the world his knack for religious poetry. It is making me misty as I write this. "Our God. Is an awesome God. He reigns. From Heaven Above." I would liken Kevin to a Christian Phil Collins -- if Phil Collins looked like a 6'2'' third grader and was interested in writing nothing but third-grade level lyrics.
Joe- Nice guy, apparently a good drummer
Tom- Funny guy, a bit nervous
Rich- Comically indifferent to the entire experience
Jon- Very, very mature, wealthy, has a house, two cars, good with computers.
He actually changed his name from "John" to "Jon" before the show, to give himself an edge -- little did he know that he had me (and what I can only assume to be the rest of the planet) at "I have a house."
Johnny- Very keen on ninjas, funny dude
Jim- Bad ass

Disastrous Dates

So we're down to the final four and with my archnemesis Jon out of the picture I really have no more distractions. With my head as clear as it's been since I arrived, some unexpected questions began to arise. Am I still here? It seemed like a just a few days ago I stepped off a party bus with a bottle of Champagne and no idea or expectations as to what could happen. I thought I'd make it through an elimination or two, make a few friends and be on my way. Now I can't sleep because of the knots in my stomach and the nervous tension that resides in my entire body at the thought of introducing Stacey to my family -- especially my mother. Everything happened so fast.

No matter how many times we say it, is age really just a number? I was under the impression that both Stacey and I truly believed this statement. That is, until my mom crashed the party. After one minute of sitting on that couch with everyone I was praying that the tree above us would somehow collapse and put me out of my misery. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't convince her that this was a serious relationship. This was obviously due to the 19-year age gap, but I found my mom's reaction extremely hypocritical: My mom and dad were at least 10 years apart and I think it was OK with her because she was the younger of the two. Society really does have some ridiculous double standards.

Anyway, my brother and sister were very accepting and really hit it off with Stacey; however, I know that my mom's relentless disbelief put some definite concerns in Stacey's mind. For the first time she started to question our compatibility. This couldn't have come at a worse time because when I saw Stacey that morning... Wow. She looked so amazing and had such a young and playful ambience about her that my feelings just doubled.

Unfortunately I had to share my day with my biggest competition, the one and only Jimmy Heck. What can I say, that's just bad luck. He's older than me, he's more shredded than me. The only way I could see Jimmy's date going south is if Stacey fell in love with his dad. This is the only dad she's meeting and if he's just an older version of Jimmy, that has to be his biggest competition. Watching Jimmy's date makes mine look like a nightmare. Just compare the music from both beginning scenes. Where was the booze on my date?! No booze = big mistake. His parents are so interested and excited that their date blew mine out of the water.

Back at the house I was feeling more relaxed after a nice soak in the hot tub. And then things got worse again. Stacey and Jimmy walked in and went straight to the den. I still haven't been up there and now I might not get a chance. I think we were all a little jealous.

Colt's date makes me feel a lot better. His brothers really took it to her and asked the tough questions. I almost died laughing when both of his brothers guessd that Stacey is older than she really is -- are they trying to get him kicked off? His brother with the beard reminds me of the choreographer from Bring It On. I keep waiting for him to do "Spirit Fingers." Yes, I like that movie.

But then Colt came home and went straight to the Cougar Den! The timing of my date was horrible. Will I ever get to see this magical place?

I knew from the moment Adam told me he was bringing Grant that the date was going to be a disaster. Leaving Grant and Stacey to talk alone was a horrible idea; I think Grant wants a second chance with Stacey and is laying it on pretty thick. It would have been crazy if they both stuck around for a while. Thanks Adam, for making my date the second worst!

My date didn't go as well as I had hoped but Stacey met my family and thank god that's out of the way. But what's next? Where do we go from here? If things keep happening at this pace we could be married and expecting our first in a month or two.

Doing Damage Control

And then there were six... I was shocked that I made it past the last elimination, but I realize that I now have to put my antics aside and start opening up to Stacey or I'll be going home at the next elimination. I was opposed to the kiss-off style elimination from the beginning -- and now we have a kissing contest? Wow, I feel like I'm back in middle school playing a game of truth or dare. As you can tell by my reaction, after being selected to go first for today's challenge I already felt like I had won. There's nothing worse than getting sloppy seconds or sloppy sixths (I felt bad for Colt). Thank god for antiseptics! Jon wins with his "feel my heart pound while I peck your lips" style kiss and Jimmy just got himself a "mouth to mouth resuscitation" style kiss.

I knew it would be interesting to see Jon and Jimmy on a date with Stacey because they are clearly polar opposites. Jon stepped out of the bus on the first night and laid out his intentions to Stacey without hesitation. The only downside to Mr. Mature is that he can't handle the heat when another man enters the picture. Jimmy, on the other hand, just came into the picture. He probably works out more than me -- OK, a lot more than me. He's confident, witty and looks like Ben Stiller in Zoolander. Sometimes I thought Jimmy forgot to pack a shirt before coming to the show. Both of these guys seemed to have kept her attention because they both returned to the house.

The next day Stacey invited Travis and I out to a night of dinner and drinks. She looked stunning, but I'm convinced Colt cut off her left sleeve and made it into an ascot to add to his ever-expanding collection. Immediately after we were seated, our waitress unexpectedly brought over a series of questions. Travis surprised me with his level of maturity. When I was 21 the only thing on my mind was spring break, sleeping in, updating my Facebook page and wondering if I was going to graduate college in under four years. It's evident that I was a little nervous about what kind of questions Stacey was going to ask -- and sure enough, she brought the heat.

There's nothing worse than a romantic dinner and great company, disrupted by a question regarding past sexual partners. I pondered the thought of responding with a four-digit number just to see her reaction, but I kept my cool and got past that one. My one-on-one time with Stacey let me know that I needed to stop enjoying the pool, hot tub and kegerator at the house and start focusing on Stacey. Note to self: Stop playing hard to get.

Once we got back to the house, Stacey relayed her frustrations to the rest of the guys -- which made Jon feel like she was directing her anger at him. Instead of asking me what happened, Mr. Mature attacked Travis.

The final date before elimination was a much-needed beach retreat with all of the remaining guys. I thought I was the only guy who had to do some damage control but it looks like Jon, an amateur sandcastle artist, was playing catch-up as well. Throughout the competition Jon kept saying we were all going to hang ourselves, but it looks like those words finally caught up with him. I knew Jimmy was going to step up his game and sure enough, when the drama began, Jimmy made his move. Another wild card, Joe, really put himself out there by dropping the 'L' bomb. For me it's WAY too early to be throwing around that word -- I give Joe a lot of credit.

I finally took down my guard and did my best to let Stacey know that I wanted to continue on and looked forward to introducing her to my family. For me, that's a big step, and an even bigger step when the woman you're introducing your family to has a family of her own. Oh, and PS: She's 40!

Thanks for all of the support. I love you all.

Message Edited by Adam_TheCub on 05-13-2009 10:07 PM

Message Edited by Adam_TheCub on 05-13-2009 10:09 PM

The Surreal Life

We're now down to nine guys in the house. As Vivica explains, there will be two dates: a group date and an individual date. At this point the stress levels are rising as the guys attempt to do what it takes to spend some time with Stacey on one of these dates.

There are a lot of things that need to go into a relationship in order to make it work, and I believe that trust and honesty are two of the most important pieces. In today's first challenge, we were given a few minutes to think of a deep, dark secret that we would reveal to Stacey. Some of the guys seemed a little nervous about it - myself included!

Winning this "Deep Dark Secret" challenge today is more important to some than others. For instance, Jimmy is definitely getting frustrated with the challenges, and has yet to leave the house. Travis seems to have fallen off the path a bit and needs to step it up here. Joe's date last week went really well for him. Ryan is a good guy -- some alone time with Stacey may help deliver that to her. The intent of revealing my secret was to show Stacey that I am an honest person who does make mistakes. I was 17 at the time, and really hadn't had a serious relationship. I can only hope that she will be receptive to that.

Stacey ultimately picked Ryan and me to join her on an awesome date to Paris Valley Skydiving for some indoor adventure. She chose Ryan first for some one-on-one time to talk about his secret, and where he was in his life when he went to rehab. I think Ryan explained himself, but Stacey may have been looking for something different.

When Stacey and I had our chance to talk, it gave me an open opportunity to let her know that my secret was a secret for a reason. It's not something I tell everyone, but I felt that I didn't want to hide anything from my past. We talked for a while about it, and I told her I was NOT proud of it at all. It gave us a chance to talk about how we handle relationships, which was a little relieving. But I was not so relieved when Stacey announced, "On any date I can let somebody go..." When she called Ryan over to begin the kiss-off, I thought, "This is it, I'm definitely going home!" I was really shocked to see that Stacey sent Ryan home. I knew my secret was much more damaging than his, which made me pretty nervous at this point. Sorry to see you go, man - the house won't be the same!

It was my turn for what I thought for sure was the same door Ryan had just walked through. Stacey began to explain her opinions of my secret and what we had talked about on our alone time. Nervous as hell to be sent home, I gave it a last-ditch effort to say something that might just change her mind right there and then! Well, it turns out, by some twist of I don't know what - she kissed me and at least for the rest of the day I was safe... but there is of course the elimination kiss-off, which no one is immune to.

Thankful as hell that the kiss-off was over, we could finally relax and enjoy the indoor skydiving. The feeling of being weightless was an unreal experience! It was just like jumping out of the plane - with the best part being the free fall. Unfortunately, it had to end, and we were back at the house.

Colt - I appreciate the opinion, man - but to be honest, I wasn't there to meet a dude.

Stacey is really narrowing down the guys now, and may be flipping roles a bit. Originally, she seemed to let the guys ask the questions and see how that went. But, at this point in the game, she is trying to pull some deep conversation out of everyone.... mainly to find out why each guy is here.

Joe: The first guy invited up to the "Cougar Den." Good work, man!

The next challenge is to reveal our feelings to Stacey... in song. We have 30 minutes to come up with a song? Don't professionals do this stuff over the course of weeks and months? Joe seemed to have some writer's block, and Austin did more of a haiku. Adam throws out his "country side," and Jimmy hopes to win one this round! But in the end, who could compete with Colt (Mr. Ascot) and his traveling band?

While Colt was away on his date, the rest of us at the house were trying to relax and think about the upcoming elimination. Who will stay, who will leave? "Should I wear a tie tonight?" "Hey, who's got the iron?" "There's no hot water!"

This experience has been surreal, between the challenges we were given and the abundance of alcohol. Let's just say it's made for some interesting stories.

Keep watching - there is much more on the horizon.

Alone at Last

After not getting picked for the first TWO dates I knew I had to step up my game. I had no idea why I didn't get picked for the first date, but hey, what can you do? When Vivica said that there was a talent show I knew I had to pull out all the stops. I was thinking of all of my hidden talents, and I'm not going to lie - a puppet show was NOT the first one to come to mind.

I knew Stacey viewed me as a macho athletic guy, but I didn't know if she knew I had a sense of humor. That's why I decided to go with the puppet show, even if it made me look like a fool.

Some of the guys' talents were just ridiculous: Nick's lap dance was by far the most disgusting thing I have ever seen, and you can tell from Stacey's face that she was not into it. Jimmy, c'mon, buddy -- after the whole getting down on one knee when you first met her and then hearing J.D.'s Shakespeare, you should have come up with something better than doing Shakespeare again. No wonder why you haven't gone on a date yet!

Getting picked for my talent was something I was definitely pumped about. I knew that I had to make a great impression on this date and was curious to see what it was... aaaaaaaaaand great, the one thing I was hoping it wasn't was what we were doing: DANCING. For it to be salsa dancing made it even worse. OK, I know Johnny knows how to dance and I can probably hold my own against Austin and Adam -- but that's not saying too much. I know Stacey is going to think I'm this smooth dancer. WRONG! I may be tall, dark and handsome but this brother cannot dance.

Finally I had some alone time with Stacey. I felt that it was really good. I got to know what she's looking for in a man and that she can handle someone who is confident and has the attention on him instead of her. I'm still not sure if there's emotional chemistry between us, but the physical chemistry is definitely there.

Austin, Austin, Austin. "Green light," buddy? C'mon, I know it's a popular song now, but not something you should yell right after you get a kiss.

Poor Johnny; I guess the third time is NOT the charm.

Vivica is not making it easy on us guys to win these competitions. Picking a dress for a sexy older woman is something that I thought was going to be easy. Not so! The selection we had was HORRIBLE. Out of all the pieces in the store there were maybe three that I could picture a normal person wearing. Johnny going with the '80s prom dress was the best he could do because it was either that or a Pepto Bismol colored dress. So my man Joe definitely had this won when he picked his gown. If Stacey was going to a nightclub she would've definitely picked mine -- she even told me that herself!

I got to know Joe pretty well because he was my roommate in the house. Prior to the dress challenge, Joe and I had a talk about how he needed to step it up because he felt that he was getting overshadowed by all the other guys here. The fact that he found the perfect dress out of all of us couldn't have worked out better for him.

When he got picked he had literally five minutes to get dressed and mentally prepared for the date. He impressed me with how quick, calm and collected he was in such short time; he did a much better job than I would have because I know NOTHING about wine, and Stacey was impressed as well. When he got back to the house and the cameras were off he mentioned how he felt that he had the upper hand on all the guys because he knew he impressed her, and that Stacey will want more of him so he'll continue to lay low and have her keep on wanting him. Joe had better watch it -- if he doesn't pursue her, what happened to Adam may happen to him.

I would like to thank all of my fans -- and I promise there will be more coming from me (without my shirt on, of course).

Message Edited by David_TheCub on 04-29-2009 10:44 PM

Message Edited by TVLTheLink on 04-29-2009 10:56 PM

Poetry in Motion (JD)

"Twenty men entered

But only 15 would stay

My quest for Cougar love

Sees another day." – J.D.

I was selected as one of the fortunate 15 who would be moving into The Cougar’s den and have the ultimate chance of capturing her heart. I must say, it wasn’t easy sweating the eliminations of the big first night. After freaking Stacey out with my strong, invasive prose and then not even grabbing the opportunity to partake in some interpersonal communication with her later in the night, I wasn’t exactly brimming with confidence. Despite these minor setbacks, she used her better judgment and extended me an invitation to her domain.

While the aesthetics of moving into Stacey’s lavish spread was exciting, it was the dynamic of the characters and personalities I was sharing a roof with that made it an experience to behold. Even from my relatively small time spent with the other guys, I could already kind of gauge who the alphas, the suck-ups, the sincere and so forth were. Being the good-looking yet reclusive guy, especially when in an unfamiliar environment, I knew it would take me a little more time to find my comfort zone. Momentum is everything for me and because I didn’t have it from the first night, there was no telling how my first actual conversation with Stacey was going to go.

With our first day in the house, came our first test of might. Well, not so much in our actual might, but our ability to facilitate such to Stacey in a one-on-one fitness tutorial as her personal trainer. While some of the guys were champing at the bit to take their shirt off, and if there was time, maybe deepen their connection with Stacey, my head was spinning on how I was going to even scratch the surface. It was like I was back in a college marketing class preparing an elevator pitch. Well, I guess you could say I had a little more time than a standard elevator pitch, but that’s what it felt like! In five minutes, how am I going to convince this beautiful woman I’m not as loony as my poem made me sound, show her I’m a cool guy who's worth keeping around, and manually instruct her through a bench-press routine all while trying to keep my muscles flexed and not getting too excited? Easier said then done, as you can tell by that smooth introduction we shared. I did get to bench press though -- at least THAT made me feel like a man.

To my, and no one else’s surprise, my engaging tutorial did not grant me a spot in the group date with Stacey later that night. For once in my life, I saw this with a glass-half-full perspective, and knew that at least now she wouldn’t have the chance to kick me off!

While I was not there to share in the atmosphere and emotions of the skate date, I thought it was pretty obvious why she selected those guys. Colt, Adam and Travis appeared to have struck a chord with her from the beginning, and unlike other boys I thought had positioned themselves in that manner as well, they managed to keep their shirts on when the opportunity arose. Ryan was there because he had that in-your-face, uncensored personality, and oh, was in some testy waters with Colt. I think Stacey wanted to see how mature the boys could be in keeping their temperament at bay. Tom, I loved you and you were funny as hell, but you were the sacrificial lamb of the date – someone had to go.

The morning of Day Two brought the expected and unexpected travails of an adventure such as this. Coupled with the expected hangover I was enduring following the prior night’s sausage fest party, it was brought to our attention that we would be celebrating Stacey’s 40th -- I said 40th -- birthday! With this pending celebration, it would only be right if they turned it into a competition as to who could pave the way to Stacey’s soul through thy bearing of gift. I knew I was in trouble. I guess it doesn’t help when you try to schedule your romantic relationships with women so they don’t occur during the gift-bearing holidays. I mean uuuhhh… joke! As far as the gift I presented, if I could have done it over, I definitely would have went with just a card and a light-hearted birthday poem. It really irked me when Stacey assumed that the poem I recited was not my own, so I thought by composing one at this time, it'd go a long way. Maybe that could have made all the difference!? Damn you, hindsight!

While Ms. Stacey was off running around with Jon, the rest of us groomed for yet another birthday surprise for her. While most of the guys fraternized with her friends, Mici and Kelly, I remained a bit more stand-offish and in my cocoon. At this point, I knew my time was near. There was never that initial getting-to-know-you time, especially after that face I got the first night! You know that face; you know what I’m talking about! Anyway, in a normal setting, if I couldn’t gauge that chemistry during an encounter, I would pack up and move on -- I know too well the abundance of fish the sea provides. Well in this setting, you can’t just run off and I knew that I was up against it. While some men could impress The Cougar to preserve their survival, I simply could not.

Message Edited by TVLTheLink on 04-22-2009 11:13 PM

Message Edited by TVLTheLink on 04-23-2009 08:15 AM

A Drunk Man's Words ... (Ryan)

The reason I wanted to be on this show is because I love beautiful, sophisticated, seasoned women. These women play no games, have their own career and know their way around the bedroom. They are very direct in what they want, whether it's a committed relationship or just a boy-toy scenario. I manage a martini bar in downtown Chicago, where the cougs are on the prowl. I was tired of the same old scene so I decided to do the show.

Where do I begin... let's back up to before I met Stacey. I was so nervous that I thought I'd have a few drinks to relax, but obviously that didn't work out the way I wanted it to. By the time Stacey walked out, I was bombed. When I flubbed my opening line, I felt awful -- but have you ever heard the expression "A drunk man's words are a sober man's thoughts"? Don't get me wrong, Stacey is a bombshell and I felt horrible for the mistake, but it was still REALLY funny. Especially to everyone who wasn't me. Everyone's had one of those drunken, blurry nights -- unfortunately, mine was on national television.

Now my game plan for the night had completely changed. Her first impression of me was less than perfect and I was sure that I was being sent home. So I figured that I'd just have fun the rest of the night and get as hammered as possible!

For the most part, I had a great time with the guys in the house. Jonny, Austin, the twins and Nick were funny as hell. I had NO problems with anyone in the house -- except for Colt. He'd been asking me stupid questions all night, and I was obviously not in the mood for his ridiculous comments and had warned him to stop bothering me with annoying questions. I'd had enough. I get along with just about everyone, but he was way too fake.

The first night with Stacey, while admittedly awkward, definitely made me see how amazing she is. She's very sweet, compassionate and understanding. She saw something in me and gave me a second chance. And I was very grateful for her decision to keep me around.

Keep watching -- the best is yet to come!

Message Edited by TVLTheLink on 04-16-2009 06:43 AM

Message Edited by TVLTheLink on 04-23-2009 08:16 AM
